Internet portal Lycos has made a screensaver that endlessly requests data from sites that sell the goods and services mentioned in spam e-mail.
Lycos hopes will it make the monthly bandwidth bills of spammers soar by keeping their servers running flat out.
The net firm estimates that if enough people sign up and download the tool, spammers could end up paying to send out terabytes of data.
Well sure, but happens if they fight back with attacking the IP addresses that ping them?
Well, its been a while since we added something here and frankly we came very close to abandoning the weblog due to the massive amount of spam we were getting in this. However, a friend was kind enough to show us Jay Allen's MT blacklist and I am so amazed with the results. Within twenty minutes hour we installed the scripts, locateds all the spam comments, removed them automatically and rebuild all the entries.
Thanks for a fantastic tool Jay.
